On November 15 the Writers in Prison Committee of International PEN remembers writers who are and have been jailed for their writings.

History of the PEN Day of the Imprisoned Writer: On July 24, 1960, at the International PEN Center Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a  list of 56 names — 7 writers imprisoned in Albania, 25 in Czechoslovakia, 13 in Hungary, 2 in France and 9 in Romania, was circulated among the delegates.
